Intriguing India

I have only been to India twice, for barely a week total. It is impossible for such a short time to reveal to one person much about a land so large and so teeming with people. But it is enough time to be intrigued by the place. It is enough time to meet very warm, very smart people. Enough time to see deep poverty next to my posh hotel. Enough time to marvel at the traffic. Enough time to want to go back.

This column by Anand Giridharadas captures some of my fleeting experiences. He is finishing six years in India writing for the NY Times, so he could draw conclusions and make pronouncements I'll never be able to make. So I am comforted that he instead is left with more questions than answers.
